FAQ

Any operational, registered Canadian business with annual revenue under $1 million is eligible. It’s open to small business owners, entrepreneurs, and startups across industries (excluding residents of Quebec, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut).

One entry per business. To qualify, you complete the application form, get a free insurance quote, and follow Zensurance on at least one social channel. Please review our terms and conditions for more information.

No. However, if you are not a Zensurance client, you need to get a free online quote to be eligible to win, but you’re never obligated to purchase anything. Making a purchase does not increase or otherwise impact your chances of being selected as a grant finalist. Existing Zensurance clients do not need to get a free quote to be eligible for a grant.

It comes down to your story, not your balance sheet. The finalists are selected by a judging panel based on how they will use the funds, what their community impact is, and their overall business goals.

The business owner that receives the $10,000 grant is chosen by the public in an online vote that takes place from September 22 to 29, 2026. The $10,000 grant recipient is declared on this web page on October 1, 2026. The remaining five grant finalists will each receive a $1,000 grant.

It’s up to you to decide how to invest the funds in your small business! But be sure to outline in your grant entry what your business would do with a $10,000 grant if it is selected by the general public.

What Is a Certificate of Insurance (COI)?

A certificate of insurance (COI) is a one-page document issued by your insurer or broker that proves your business is insured. It summarizes your active coverages, policy limits, expiry date, and other key details, so clients, landlords, and partners can confirm you're covered before they agree to work with you.

Do Consultants in Canada Need Liability Insurance?

One misread recommendation or a project that falls short of a client's expectations can trigger a negligence claim or an expensive lawsuit. Here's how the right insurance protects your consulting business, your finances, and your reputation.
